Using the word “lean” previously, people initially were
describing someone that was very thin and emaciated. However, the word has
ameliorated, and it now has much more positive connotations. In recent times,
people will use the word lean to describe someone who has very little body fat
and is very muscular. This could be
because in this day in age many more people are conscious about their health
and body weight.
The word “novice” was originally used to describe a member
of a religious order who has not taken vows yet. Its meaning has now broadened,
and “novice” is now used to describe someone that is quite inexperienced, or
seen as a beginner in a task/skill/job. This may have changed because our
society has become much less religious.
Revolutionary primarily meant someone who favours
overthrowing the Government. Recently, its meaning has ameliorated and
broadened to mean a cause or dramatic change.
The word “lewd” has very much pejorated in English language,
and now has negative connotations. Before, the word was used to describe someone
that didn’t have an official position in the church. It now means someone who
expresses sexual things in a very crude or expressive way.
